Congratulations to the El Paso City Council.
They were just nominated for the “Golden Padlock Award.” What the hell is that? It is an annual award that is issued by Investigative Reporters and Editors(IRE.) The award is intended to raise awareness to the most secretive government agencies or individuals involved in public office in America. The city was nominated by El Paso Times editor Bob Moore after the city of El Paso failed to provide hundreds of public documents, as required by the Freedom of Information Act.
El Paso was a top five finalist. The winner will be announced at IRE’s annual conference in New Orleans June 18. A representative from the winning agency will be invited to receive the honor.
